I loved the idea of getting rid of my seatpost clamp. Not really because it didnt work, just because i could and i like the clean look. So here is my how to for a easy cheap and usefull seat post mod.
First: Find a drill bit that just fits inside your hole in the frame where the clamp fits onNext pull your post out and go stick it in your trusty vice. Take a sharp object of some type and put a nice little dent in the center of the sharpie mark. I just happened to have a screwdriver
Grab a small drill bit and put a hole where you made the dent.
next grab the bit that barely fit in your frame hole and drill the hole out to that size.
Now its time to tap the hole the bolt will thread into. Mine just happened to be a 5/16 tap. Yours might be different im not really sure. Now when using a tap it is ideal to have a die. If you happen to have one your in good shape. I didnt so i get to use a cresent wrench. It works either way. Just make sure it goes in smoothly and as vertical as possible. Take your time, this is the part that makes or breaks it.
If all went well your bolt should go in now. I have a 5/16 3/4 inch bolt with coarse thread. Make sure the bolt is no longer than 3/4 inch or it will hit the other side of the post before you get your post tight. I make sure to run the bolt all the way in before attempting to put it on the bike because those threads still may be rough.
Finally stick the post in and then tighten the bolt. Do not over tighten because you can strip the new threads you just put in. Seatposts are not the toughest material. Now go ride and have fun. If anyone has questions feel free to pm me.
Note: I wouldnt recomend doing this mod unless your post is slammed. Im not sure how well the threads will hold up to pressure from landing on the seat. It might strip it might not
